The Operating Fund

The Nancy K. Perry Children's Shelter Operating Fund was established in the early 1972 to support the care of homeless, abused children often were placed in the Lexington County Jail because no other facilities existed. Donations provide food, clothing, and a loving, home-like environment. Operating Fund gifts are unrestricted allowing The Shelter to use the funds where they are most needed.

Who Participates?

Anyone with a love for children and a concern for their future is encouraged to support The Shelter through the Operating Fund.

What are you supporting?

Funds raised through the Nancy K. Perry Children's Shelter have a direct impact on the lives of the children and families receiving services. Operating Funds are used to meet our most pressing needs - the prevention and treatment of child abuse and neglect, providing, emergency services to children and teens in crisis (birth to 18 years old), everyday operating expenses, on-going training for staff and critical building repairs. Also, these funds provide for employee training, and for healthy recreational activities for the children, such as the State Fair, summer recreational program, birthday gifts, movies, and outings of all types.

When to Give?

The Operating Fund follows the calendar year, beginning each year on January 1st and ending on December 31 st , and gifts are welcome every day of the year. Traditionally, we have conducted a direct mail campaign just prior to Thanksgiving each year.

For those individuals and businesses, there are occasions throughout the year to contribute to the Operating Fund.

Memorials and Honorariums

Many supporters chose to send gifts for The Shelter children and youth in memory of or in honor of a loved one or special friend which we gladly acknowledge..

Why Contribute?

The stronger The Nancy K. Perry Children's Shelter Operating Fund, the better equipped we are to provide quality services to Lexington County children and families in crisis and to address urgent needs for physically and sexually abused children.

Your generosity to The Nancy K. Perry Children's Shelter and your participation in the Operating Fund enables children and youth to receive care of the highest quality and maybe for the first time these young people can see past their anger, their abandonment, their abuse and can begin the long journey toward healing. These special kids can begin to take steps toward trusting, toward hope and maybe they too can at last be part of a caring family.
