7 Financial and Fundraising Principles of the Nancy K. Perry Children's Shelter

1. The Nancy K. Perry Children's Shelter is a nonprofit, 501 (c) (3) organization. We receive the designation for the US Internal Revenue Service and the South Carolina Secretary of State. This assures the public that we adhere to ethical accounting, administration, and fundraising practices. We are a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

2.The Shelter operates on a cash basis (i.e., it does not owe or borrow money and bills are paid as received). We voluntarily submit to an annual audit by an independent public accounting firm. Financial statements are presented in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.

3.We never pressure not resort to "gimmicks" to obtain support. We believe it is important to make our needs known and then to ask people to seek their hearts and the Lord's guidance on how they should respond. We are always glad to accept donations, but we solicit money only once per year.

4.We assume that every donation is sacrificial and therefore, treat the use of that support with the utmost care, reserve, and frugality. We continue to have only 2 fulltime employees.

5. We never sell or reveal our mailing list to others. Privacy is zealously guarded.

6.We strive to ensure that all fundraising efforts clearly portray the purpose of the funds to be raised and that all contributions received are used for those specific purposes.

7.We expensed 82% of total expenditures for program services directed at reaching and meeting the physical, emotional, educational and spiritual needs of the children. 18% went for administrative purposes during FY 06-07.
